Our loving mother, sister, friend, and teacher, Maria Lisa Davis, 56, of Medford, MA, died suddenly Thursday morning, June 11, 2009, while teaching mathematics at John J. McGlynn Middle School, in Medford, Mass.

Maria Lisa was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 25, 1952, the fifth child of Maria Davis and the late Philip C. Davis, Jr. of Laconia, NH.  During her father’s service in the US Army, Maria Lisa and her family lived in Germany, West Point, NY, Pembroke, NH, Okinawa, Japan, and Ft. Ord, CA.  After retirement, the family moved to Laconia, NH, where Maria Lisa graduated from Laconia High School in 1971.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from UNH in 1975, and her Master’s Degree in organizational management from Endicott College in 2004.

Maria Lisa was an advocate of public education where she served as a professional for many years and at many levels, including adult professional development in technology areas.  Her final and most enjoyable posting was as a 6th grade mathematics teacher at John J. McGlynn Middle School in Medford.  

Beloved mother, daughter, and sister, Maria Lisa is survived by her young daughter, Arianna Maddalena Davis; mother Maria Davis; brothers and sisters Madeleine Neale, Karen Arthur, Linda Davis-Husman, Philip J. Davis, Doretta Simoes, Larry Davis, Lori Davis-Miller, Kim Davis, and Alida Sheridan, and spouses; and many nieces and nephews.

Maria Lisa was predeceased by her father, Philip C. Davis, Jr., brother Peter Davis, and niece Maria Pearl Miller.

Visiting hours will occur between 4pm and 8pm at Gaffey Funeral Home, 43 High St., Medford, MA, on Monday, June 15.  Funeral services will be held at 11am, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 441 Fellsway West, in Medford, on Tuesday, June 16.

Donations:  In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to an education fund for Arianna M. Davis.  All donations should be made out to “Arianna Davis”, 735 Turnpike Street, Suite 333.  North Andover, MA 01845.
