Edward Martin Martin a lifelong resident of Medford passed away on January 9, 2018 quietly at his home. Born Edward Martin Mooshekian on May 14, 1936 in Medford to Zaven and Katherine (née Kelley) Mooshekian. To avoid the prejudice associated with ethnic names Zaven changed his children’s last name to Martin in 1938. Edward was honorably discharged from the Army in 1958.
Edward was a graduate of Harvard. He was passionate about Opera, his Union and about his Armenian heritage. At the time of his death he was learning to speak Armenian. He was a proud member of the Communication Workers of America and a long-time Vice-President of the Boston Typesetters Local 13. He remained active with the Union both locally and regionally, for many years, after his retirement from the City of Boston Print Shop.
Mr. Martin was pre-deceased by his parents and his uncle the marathoner Johnny Kelley. He is survived by his brother James Martin and his wife Helen, by his nieces Theresa Webb and Tina Brown, nephew Robert Martin, and many great nephews and nieces.
visiting hours are from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16 with a Memorial Service to follow at the Gaffey Funeral Home of 43 High Street, Medford. A private interment at Oak Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Boston Lyric Opera or the Armenian Society of Boston.
